{"id":451,"date":"2016-07-05T23:05:56","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T22:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pbthomas.com\/blog\/?p=451"},"modified":"2016-07-05T23:05:56","modified_gmt":"2016-07-05T22:05:56","slug":"what-about-saving-the-planet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pbthomas.com\/blog\/?p=451","title":{"rendered":"What about saving the planet?"},"content":{"rendered":"<span itemprop=\"description\"><p>Aim: To explore the responsibility of Christians to care for Creation <\/p>\n<p>What the Bible says<br \/>\nPsalm 24:1-2<br \/>\nGenesis 1:26-28<br \/>\nGenesis 2:15<br \/>\nLeviticus 25:23<br \/>\nRomans 8:19-22<br \/>\nRomans 13:10<\/p>\n<p>The most important issues<br \/>\nClean and renewable energy sources, nuclear power and green technologies.<br \/>\nGlobal warming: fossil fuels and carbon footprints, climate change and its impacts<br \/>\nPollution: water &#038; air &#038; light: the ozone layer; e.g. acid rain; persistent organic pollutants; microbeads<br \/>\nConservation and ecology: habitats, fisheries, metals and minerals, mining and fracking.<br \/>\nBiodiversity and species depletion, protecting wildlife, deforestation.<br \/>\nSustainable and ethical food production: genetic engineering and genetically modified organisms.<br \/>\nConsumerism and minimising waste, recycling, landfill, hazardous waste.<br \/>\nPopulation balance for both animal and human populations.<br \/>\nThe impacts of any of these issues on the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.<br \/>\nThe balance between caring for and saving the planet and caring for and saving people<\/p>\n<p>DO NOT Turn a blind eye \u2013 fossil fuels are running out \u2013 oil will soon be too precious to burn<br \/>\nDO NOT Burden the developing nations with the problem of global warming<br \/>\nDO NOT Pursue \u201csolutions\u201d which save the planet but hurt people.<br \/>\nDO Pursue sensible new technologies: fuel cells; nuclear fission to bridge the gap until nuclear fusion<br \/>\nDO Care for the victims of global warming<br \/>\nDO PLAY YOUR PART: Saving electricity: turn it off, turn it down, go solar. Recycle. Shop wisely: avoid food waste; consider food miles.
