I am doing a New Thing

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)

We serve a God who is often doing new things. Isaiah’s prophecy to the exiles in Babylon is a message for us as well. I believe God is ready and waiting to do “a new thing” in North Springfield Baptist Church in 2013.
Some “new things” God will do may be different for different people’s lives. It could be some new sphere of Christian service, some new responsibilities of caring, some new opportunities in witnessing, some new experiences in love and prayer and the Holy Spirit. But I believe God is also going to do something new in the life of the church. Not just new, improved, or “bigger and better,” but something we haven’t experienced before. Perhaps it will be in the vitality of our worship, or in the depth of our fellowship, or in the effectiveness of our witness.
Whatever it is we need to watch and pray so that we will be able to perceive what God is doing and to play our part in it. I preached on this text on the first Sunday evening of the year and that message is online at www.pbthomas.com/blog. Some printed copies are also available. We will also hold a morning of prayer on Saturday February 2nd to listen to God together and seek His leading for 2013. For this month let us all spend time in prayer asking God what He wants to do amongst us and preparing ourselves to trust and obey.
Every blessing for this new year!
