1. We are not ignorant of his devices – A Bible Study

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. (2 Corinthians 2:11 King James Version)

in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. (2 Corinthians 2:11 NIV 2011)

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

The Bible warns us to be on our guard against the devil. Split up into groups of two or three people. Each group should spend ten minutes looking at one or two of the sections below, so that all the sections are covered by the different groups. For each of the devil’s schemes try to answer these questions and be ready to share your findings.

(i) What danger does the Bible warn us about?
(ii) How does that danger face us IN PRACTICE in everyday life and in the life of a church?
(iii) What does the Bible and our experience suggest will be the best defences to this kind of attack of the devil. Again, be PRACTICAL.
